Ancestry 19 - We Won!
Draco was summoned to the bank, going in his best outfit. He reminded himself to be respectful. The bank could do a lot of damage to his family. He bowed to Blackrock. "What's happened?"
"There's issues with the heir's ring, Mr. Malfoy."
"Yes, it still lets me wear it but nags me constantly so I keep it on a chain around my neck." He took it off to put on and it did resize for him. Then started to nag about his mixed blood. He glared at it. It quit. He looked at Blackrock again. "It's not *my* fault he slept with a veela. He's just blaming me for existing. But I am the last of the Malfoy family."
"We should go over the apocalypse clause's details in case it decides to banish you."
"Can't I pick a different spirit to put into the ring?"
"Only if you go yourself."
"When I die I can do that. At least then my children won't have him nagging them." The ring fell off and he sighed, putting it on the necklace again. "He's nagging about heirs to the family and I'm the only one that can have those heirs but he hates that idea because he slept with a veela and had children. He's the father of the one who hated his siblings so much we have a single heirs only clause."
"Many family bloodlines are not reasonable," Blackrock said, pulling that information out for him. "I thought it came from your mother's bloodline."
Draco looked at him. "It does. They married their first cousin." He grimaced. "Things were apparently desperate in that generation. I plan on marrying someone from out-country who's never mixed with Malfoy blood."
"We encourage that with how twisted and single strand some of your family tree became."
"Me too. I saw that and was horrified." He looked at the document, grimacing. "So we'd give up the current family home but not the ancestral?"
"Yes. Which was locked by that same relation."
Draco grinned. "But I could bring the ring home and leave it there, right? Never having to wear it again? We'd quit being Malfoys and I wouldn't have to live down to Lucius' reputation?"
"Yes. Quite. But it would lose the family much of their assets. Which would mean less protection for you."
"Or I'd have a wife who took pity on me for having to do that thanks to the heir's ring?"
"You could. Have you been looking?" He handed over the notes he had made. "Interesting. There's not many families within this community that would fit. One would but Mr. Dumass is probably not going to be enamored of that idea with his past relations with a veela girlfriend."
"I read her journal." He sighed, handing it back. "How much more does it have to act up?"
"I could enact it today with what it's done."
Draco considered it. "I need to make sure some of the ancient aunts are taken care of first if I can."
"Please do. The file itself has been blinking like it's going to self actualize."
"Thank you for the warning." He pulled his wand to send out a message to those aunts so they'd appear at the bank so he could settle on them. "What about my mother?"
"She has a dowry to live on."
"Point. I'm not enamored of her at the moment. She left me to my own devices when she fled my father being arrested."
"I saw that you enacted the widow's clause." Draco smiled and nodded. "She has her jewelry and artwork. Some royals have lived on less than she has."
"Charming." The aunts were shown in. "The ring hates me," he noted to them. They all moaned. "Because he slept with someone who was a veela and had heirs with them. Which then intermarried into the Black family to make my mother. The only half-sibling I had I'm fairly certain died."
"Your father got very mad at her," one aunt said. "What's going on?"
"The apocalypse clause is trying to enact itself," Draco said. They all moaned at that. "So we have to settle things on all of you and the one uncle that's insane before then because the bank gets to claim half of whatever's left. And since I'm the heir, anything in my name is available to be claimed? Like my school funds?"
"Those are in a trust. We can add some of this to that but not everything, Mr. Malfoy. You will lose the current family home and most of the contents. The house elves can go with you. Any paintings or portraits that have no duplicates would go to the ancestral home. The things in the safes."
"I need to clean those out then. I have no idea what's in a few of them," he warned. "Father's been using them. I only have one that holds my journal."
"Understood."
Draco looked at them. "If I enact it as of a certain date it can't do it itself and we have a bit of time to make a plan. Give you anything from the house you want, all that. If it enacts itself there's no time for that." He covered the ring that tried to glow. "You do that and you're being sunk in the river," he warned it. It quit glowing. He grinned at the banker. Then at the aunts. "So when are we planning?"
"Yes. We need a week," the main aunt said.
"That's a reasonable accommodation. You probably have things in the attic and the like that need to be sent to your homes."
"Yes, we do." They went over the family's inventory of the bank's vaults, the houses, and everything else. They picked what they wanted and went as a group to help Draco pack his things from the house. Including those safes if they were heirlooms that should be saved. They knew more than the boy did about family heirlooms.
A few boxes got sent to Narcissa's present hideout in France. The rest was cleaned up and Draco signed the paperwork to enact it as of that Friday. His things went into storage at the ancestral home. The ring let him in and then went quiet because he put it in a box in the kitchen. Then he went back to the school to talk to Snape, who was in his office when he signed in. "Sir."
"Mr. Malfoy. What has happened?"
"The ring was complaining so much it nearly set off the apocalypse clause so I had to plan how to set it off myself so we could settle the aunts up and the like." Snape winced. "So as of Friday the bank can claim the old home. I left the safes open."
"Excellent planning from you. Where are you planning on living?"
"We still keep the ancestral home. Which is a huge old drafty pile of rocks. The ring's in the kitchen in a box."
"It could adjust the wards."
"No, I had them redone. He's out of it. Completely. All the aunts, my mother, no one's allowed in the wards but myself." He stared at him. "The aunts knew I'd do that."
"Good." He nodded. "Are you satisfied?"
"No one's nagging me about how he hated that he had children with a veela. I don't have a headache from him any longer. I can actually concentrate."
"That's good. Your shields seem firmer as well."
"I noticed that. So did Blackrock when I walked him through the house to show him where the safes were." He grinned. "I told the ring if he didn't quit I'd sink him in a river."
Snape laughed. "Not like anyone could claim the heritage if they found it." Draco grinned at that. "Go study, boy. Tests aren't that far off."
"I have plans of that." He went up to his dorm to relax and read for some fun. Greg Goyle looked at him. "The ring was trying to set off the family's apocalypse clause." Greg moaned, holding his stomach. "So we preplanned how to handle it when it did. So as of Friday, there's no more Noble House of Malfoy." He grinned.
"I'll let my father know. It means he might quit trying to find your mother."
"She fled."
"Point." He went to spread that news around. Sometimes the rings were perverse and hateful. With Draco being the only one.... The ring had done it to himself.
Draco sighed in pleasure. Things were easier now. Even if he may have to someday run and hide behind Potter.
***
Harry looked at Draco, who looked happier. "Rumors have hit me," he said quietly since they were in class together.
"I'm fine with that. I planned it out. Even if there's a blip, I'm still solid. Just dissolved the Noble part."
"Okay. Let me know if I need to do something."
"Does my mother get an allowance?"
"Supposedly but she hasn't gotten into it that I've seen. There's a trust vault for the heirs. Which you technically are."
Draco smirked. "I'll keep that in mind if I need it, or your cousin to run and hide behind."
"If he's out there, learn to stake a vampire," Harry said, looking serious. "They have a lot of them out there. Including a great aunt of yours Druscila. She's a seer and a Scourge of Europe." The teacher looked at him oddly. Harry grinned at her. "She is."
"She can't have magic, Mr. Potter."
"She does. Wands are often filled with light sided cores. That's why they snap any wands found on new vampires. There's nothing saying they can't get a new wand." She went pale, shaking her head. "Also, there's more than wanded magic out there. As my cousin's town proves because no one there uses a wand at all. The energy out there tends to warp spells according to him so everyone uses the more meditative forms."
"Where is that cousin of yours?"
"On a hellmouth."
She shuddered, shrinking away from him. "Those are evil. Full of evil."
"His is just full of vampires actually. Including a former member of the Black family who was one of the Four Scourges of Europe." He grinned. "She asked my cousin to ask me about being an heir." The teacher walked off rubbing her arms. He looked at Draco. "She gets a quarter of what any of the rest of you get if you ask. She has to go to a bank over there to get it. And she's a mind screwing wench according to Cousin Xander."
Draco nodded. "The Black family had some very...interesting people."
"She went here."
"Huh." He considered that. "So she was one of us?"
"Yeah. Apparently. Hermione found her in the old yearbooks but didn't say anything interesting about her in there."
"I need to look that up. Maybe I'll have that one talk to my mother."
"Don't tempt her, she'll do it and have fun. She likes that sort of thing, Draco. She's had a whole long talk with Dobby one night while she petted him and had him tied up so he was a good pet for her." He gave him a pointed look. "Dark hair, pale skin, Edwardian gowns...."
"I'll keep that in mind. Can you get me a picture? Or is that a myth too."
"There's some sort of digital camera that can take pictures of vampires. It doesn't require a mirror to do so like the old style ones apparently."
"Interesting." He considered it. "Very interesting." He nodded, making himself a few notes. "She was my great-aunt?"
"Your grandmother's generation on Narcissa's side, one of the three sisters." Draco took that down too. "She's mated to William the Bloody. Or Spike. Not sure if he was here or not." He made that note too. Harry grinned at the teacher as she came back. "Should I ask Xander how to handle that sort of magic things?"
"No!" She grimaced. "We've had some who've done that. Mostly chaos magic. I was in school with a few and they were stupidly annoying."
"Was one named Giles?" he asked. "Because he's the watcher over the current slayer, who my cousin stepped in to help." He grinned at her horrified look. "He's totally respectable now according to Xander."
"Oh," she said weakly. "Class dismissed please." They went to do other things instead. She sat down to consider her life choices and her ex-boyfriends. Maybe she should write to him. See if he was still slightly sane while being out on the area of evilness.
***
Dobby appeared next to Xander since he was in the library. "Teacher asked Great Harry Potter sir to please pass on message to his cousin Xander for her ex-boyfriend Mr. Mean Giles." He handed it over. Then he smiled. "Missus Library be saying that Alexander sir be going home to eat tonight."
"I've got patrol tonight. It'll be at least three hours, Dobby. But I'll give it to Giles. Can you take his picture really fast for that teacher?" Dobby squeaked but did that and took it back to Harry. He handed the letter over to Giles with a grin. Buffy and Willow were both staring at them oddly. "Giles went to the same school Harry's going to." Willow slumped.
Giles opened it, shaking his head. "That house elf is very nice." He read it and blinked. "She's teaching maths. She hated maths class." He went to read it in his office. "Can I send one back through you, Xander?"
"Of course."
"Thank you." He settled in to write her a letter back. He was a bit lonely without all his friends from home. It was good to hear from some of them.
Xander grinned at the girls. "Patrol?"
"Yeah, let's do that," Buffy decided, getting what she'd want and letting him grab his so they could head out together. She didn't want to know about Giles' former love life. The same as she didn't want to hear about any affairs he had with Ethan.
Willow followed still frowning about things. She wanted to talk to Xander about things but he wouldn't let her. He was still mad she tried to curse him recently to leave the group.
***
Harry got the letter and walked it over to the teacher since it was nearly dinner, the next morning in California. "Here, from my cousin over there," he said quietly with a smile. "Dobby took a picture too." He handed that over too.
"Thank you, Mr. Potter."
"You're welcome." He went back to his seat.
The headmaster looked down at her. "My former schoolmate works near his cousin. I hadn't known that."
"Ah." He nodded.
Dobby popped in and handed Draco a picture. "From Mistress Petting Stars-Talking Vampire." He rolled his eyes. "She is very weird. Pets Dobby like he's a cat." He disappeared.
"Thank you, Dobby," he called, looking at the picture. "She looks a lot like Mother's sister," he decided. "Interesting." He tucked it away.
Pansy looked at him. "Who was that? She's pretty."
"My great-aunt Druscila. Who is apparently a vampire on the hellmouth."
She shuddered. "Why?"
"She found out we're still alive and talked to Potter."
"Oh. No wonder." She stuffed her mouth.
"I wanted warned if she showed up over here."
She nodded quickly. "I would too. What an embarrassment. Having a vampire as a distant relative."
He shrugged. "With some of my family?"
"Point." She dug in again, shaking her head. Poor Draco, his reputation and family was in tatters from the apocalypse clause, and now he had a disgusting relative too.
Draco smiled because that meant that none of the girls in the school would want to become his wife. He was free of the local girls!
Ron looked at Harry. "Do you have many relatives like that?"
"Funny you should mention that, Ron." He grinned. "Tracing it back, Spike is a former Weasley."
Ron shuddered. "Don't say that, Harry." Hermione handed over the notes from the books that Harry had found that listed all the older families' lines. He looked and grimaced. "Dad's going to be upset." She let him see the letter she was writing and he added to it then bundled it up with that copy of that family tree. His father was going to pout.
***
Library stared at Xander when he came back. "Yous is late."
"I tried but we had more vampires than we wanted tonight, Library." He patted her on the head. "Do I have something I can warm up?"
"Library has kept food warm. Master Alexander must eat. Is getting out of shape."
"I know. I'm trying, Library." He settled in to eat and let her fuss at him. "Thank you."
She stared at him. "Are you poisoned? You never that nice."
"I'm not the same asshole I was."
She snorted. "Are, just younger." She left again.
He grinned, digging in. She was a pretty decent cook.
***
Spike looked at the house elf taking his picture. "What are you doing?" he demanded.
"Weasley son wanted picture to show his father you were still around so they could fix family tree." She took another one and left before she could be grabbed.
Spike moaned, shaking his head. "That's going to be a loud fit."
Dru came out to hug him. "My own family found me. The new family daddy is young, Spikey, but nice enough. And he has a bad man after him." She bit him on the ear. "They will be amused at us."
"I'm sure they will," he agreed, turning to walk her off. "What else is going on?"
"The bad man locally will have a thing. He'll want us to go help him. We shouldn't. We'll burn in the pretty sun." She stared at him. "The sun will quit hiding too soon and we'll all burn."
"Then we won't go," he promised, giving her a pat. She smiled and went to tell the others. But not the minions. That's what minions were for, doing the things that masters didn't want to do.

Harry considered the information he had been given by Snape. Voldemort had disappeared from the UK. Somehow. He looked at Hermione, sharing that note.
"Then where did he go?"
"I have no idea."
"We can warn others?"
"Who would we warn? Their Ministries?"
"That's a point. Where would he go?"
"Maybe we should warn Bill," Harry said. "Or the ones in the Americas. They could probably warn others." He got up to floo the auror that had custody of him officially, getting a tolerant man. It was the second call tonight. "Got some new news. Really fast. Voldemort has left the UK for a bit, no one's sure where or why."
The auror considered it. "That's actually weird, isn't it?" Harry nodded. "Huh. Any known other areas?"
"He had been in Albania as a ghoul. He learned Egyptian ancient magic somewhere."
"Yeah, I can pass that on. Any other weird news?"
"Xander's graduation is going to be messy. And my math teacher used to date Mr. Giles." He grinned.
"Small world. I'll remind them of the graduation. How bad?"
"They're talking ninety feet or more. Xander joked he learned how to make a volcano for it. It took one the last time."
"Shite," he muttered. "What is he going with instead?"
"I think something else to take off the head. It's in a week."
The auror nodded. "I'll make sure the boss remembers in the morning, kiddo. Thanks. Go have some fun."
"I'm trying." He hung up with a grin and went back to his books. Hermione took them from him and handed him one of her fun reading books. "Sure, I can do that instead." He went to curl up on a couch to read for a bit. It was a pretty good story.
Ron sighed and Hermione shook her head. But they weren't done with their homework yet. She had an extra paper she had to do first.
***
The auror showed up the next day. "Can we speak?" he asked when he pulled him out of class.
"Yeah, I don't mind. What's up? Did Harry have a problem I haven't heard of?"
"What is going on out here?"
Xander grinned and handed over his ideas. "It's that or a volcano."
The man read it, frowning. "What the hell?"
Xander grinned. "You're welcome to come see us finally get the hell out of here." He nodded at the principal stomping their way. "He's a government official." The principal huffed off again. He looked at the auror, who was staring at him. He grinned again. "I'm going to have to become an asshole soon." He beamed.
"I can see that. I'm going to remind people."
"We'd *adore* the help. We really would."
"I'll see what I can do, kid." He took it with him and went back to the office to talk to his supervisor, and the head of the American Aurors Guild. They video called him. "This is what's going on in Sunnydale soon."
The head auror looked then at him. "That's not possible."
"Bull, sir. We know they know what they're doing. They've been doing it now for three years without our help. Do you want them to possibly lose this one?"
"No," he admitted. "We can assign a few aurors with battle experience there just in case it does happen. They'd probably like the nicer surveillance shift."
"They've got school kids without that experience. Can they have a full team? Just in case?"
"It's not that. I can almost guarantee it's not going to be that."
"Sir, you should research the one doing it. There's never been an election there. He's always been there. For over ninety years."
"What?" he demanded. The junior auror nodded and smiled. "How do you know that?"
"I looked him up."
The local supervisor sighed. "I'm not against sending some of mine up to handle it with the defense team up there, but none of mine are warriors."
"They have a defense team?"
"They have a slayer who has a witch, a wizard, a watcher, a werewolf, and a few others behind her. Including some normal people."
The head auror blinked. "Since when?"
"Three years ago. We found out because we actually talked to Harris and the watcher guy out there. With that Potter situation he went to Harris, who is his cousin, and they had to call us in to make sure they didn't think he was kidnaped."
"I heard something about that." The supervisor sent it to him. "Oh, that's nice." He read the report with a sigh and then moaned. "Fuck that." He looked up. "Who's the guy?"
"Harris? He's also a Dumass heir. He learned from the family library. He's eighteen and her backup."
The head auror put that down, grimacing. "I'll send you a few. When is the graduation?"
"It has to happen during the eclipse. Which is the middle of their graduation ceremony."
"I'll send a team of battle aurors," the head auror decided. "Could we be wrong?"
"No. He's done the work. The book lists the sacrificial acts and no one managed to stop him from sacrificing children recently." He looked at his boss, who winced. He had ordered the local office to ignore the city again. He looked at the video of the head auror.
"Also, I heard from Potter last night. Voldemort is somewhere in the world traveling for a bit. He's left the UK, no one knows why or where he's going. We know he's used ancient Egyptian magics for his dark mark stuff and he was in Albania as a ghoul. No idea if he's in either one or somewhere else."
"I'll put out an all points," the head auror said, typing that out to send. "What are the Brits doing about that?"
"Nothing. Like usual. The ones who want to are mired in people who seem to be stuck in syrup. The last battle, the kids did it all by themselves again. Even with teachers in the school and all the other kids evacuated the first battle of this year."
The head auror grimaced but nodded. "That seems wrong."
"I've heard rumors of people who could jump in, maybe, and they're adults," the junior auror said with a smile. "We know the owner of a fairly popular mag prank shop showed up to talk to Mr. Giles once."
"Something she needed to fix?"
"Not sure. Didn't ask her reason on the forms."
"Could she be helping the other side?"
"Nah, she was part of a group that stopped it last time. Defended some areas and the like," the junior auror said with a grin.
"Interesting. Possibly helpful for that kid too." He nodded. "I'll make notes of it to make sure they get what they need that we can offer." He hung up and went to moan in peace for a few minutes. He looked up the reports that auror had filed, finding one that mentioned another hellmouth in the US. He read that one completely and sent out a bulletin about that being another hellmouth like Sunnydale was. He could switch people around at that office to make sure they could handle things that were weird.
***
The day of the Sunnydale battle happened. Finally. They had been on edge for days waiting on it. They were prepared. They were ready. They hated it but they could handle it. Xander looked at his clothes, then decided on the unofficial off-duty cursebreaker uniform: leather pants and jacket, t-shirt, boots.
He groaned as he slid into the jacket then took it off. It'd restrict his swing with his axe. Which he grabbed and shrank to put into his pocket. He checked himself over, grabbing his blessed dagger, a few other little things, and then his robe to put on as he left. He headed to the school, nodding at a few people he knew. He ran into the girls there, nodding at them. "Nerves?" he asked.
"Yeah," Buffy said with a nod. "You?"
"Calm. It'll happen or it won't. We'll do what we have to do."
She sighed but nodded. "True. We'll do what we have to do." She looked around then at him. "Is it set?"
"Yeah. And hidden. Just in case someone looked." He sighed, going to check on the bomb. Giles was in there cleaning up a small bit of leftover mess on his desk. "We good?" he asked, looking at the bomb. Someone had tried to tamper so he fixed it and made sure. Then checked and adjusted the position. Then he hid it again. Someone tried to come in and complain but Xander flicked his wand at them and they wandered off. He made sure again then turned it on. "Remote?"
"I have it," Giles agreed, holding it up. They left together, him dropping things in his car before going to the graduation site.
Xander spotted an auror and walked over toward them. "Welcome to our graduation," he said. He pointed. "Visitors are on that side." He gave him a pointed look then went to get into the lineup. The principal sneered but oh well. When things started to go toward the eclipse, the Mayor got up to speak. And did talk until the darkness started and then he spoke Latin. Xander tensed, looking around. The aurors were looking amused.
And then the demon worm appeared.
The aurors screamed like the others and a few tried to run but Xander got up. "Clear the area," he bellowed. "Go right! The front stairs are dangerous!" They herded the people that way while they kept the big snake from attacking them. The aurors got glared at by Xander and stepped in to help defend the innocent civilians.
"How does it die?" one yelled.
"Head has to come off," Buffy yelled back. "Clear the yard more! Now please!" They sent magic at the normals to make them flee. That got the ones frozen in fear to go.
"Left side, go," Xander shouted. "Right side, fall back this way." They did and the kids on the left made it out of the way. The kids on the right were in more danger. Xander cast at the demon worm to slow it down again. "Go," he shouted. The kids watched Buffy run for the school and fled. Another one fell but the auror banished him to the nearest outside area instead of him being eaten. Xander moved.
"Move!" The snake was following Buffy. She dove out of the school's window, the school exploded, the head went flying and died. Xander sighed, looking around. He helped an injured kid up. "It's over with. Go find your family." He limped off, nodding at that. Xander looked over where Buffy was, letting her know they were going to escape the area. She limped after them.
The aurors shared a look then made a report and helped the clean up while the kids rested. They had been taping it for the report. They weren't happy but they had survived it. One walked over to the group, staring at them. "Are there more of those?"
"There's at least five methods," Giles told him. "We have no idea. We can't track what people are importing."
"We can," one of the other aurors quipped with a smile. "And will be so I never have to see another of these again." He looked at the kids. "Good work." They smiled slightly. "But you guys are nuts."
Xander pointed. "Wanna handle the other big problem? For some reason we've had a lot of peaceful beings disappearing to under the college. Putting all the rumors together, we have commandos apparently."
The aurors shared a look then nodded. "Yeah, we can do that. Are you going to be here this summer?"
"Road trip," he said with a grin. Which meant he'd be back in England to work with Harry.
"Yeah, we're going to look into that," the head of the team agreed. "Because I can see one staring at the mess and taping it but not doing a single thing." He strolled over there, his team following casually. The guy tried to run so he froze him in place. They would have a good talk with them. Then with others when they had to call in the higher ups. There was a whole lot wrong there.
***
The head of the aurors looked at the head of the battle team. "I've seen the film, and lost my lunch. I've seen what you found and lost it again, twice more. Can we just shut that town down?"
"It won't stop the hellmouth from radiating. The people hiding there, and the beings hiding there, would go to Cleveland."
"Which I'd hate. We need to slow it down. How do we slow down the hell?"
"We can maybe find a way to weed down the output from the hellmouth but I have no idea how we'd do that. I asked Mr. Giles that night and he had no idea either. Though he was wanting to go help at Hogwarts."
"Good, they could probably use more adults in front of the kids."
"I think that's the plan going on."
"Good!" He stared at him. "The remains?"
"The locals insisted it was a gas leak that caused an explosion and left everything there. I've sent a few specialists up to look at it secretly, and warned them about the town and the locals. They were not amused at the knowledge of the town, but they're happy to go look at that new species and how it happens. Mr. Giles was not amused at them asking questions and doubting but they got to see the film." He smirked. "Which we did send to Mr. Giles' former bosses. I'm sure they're going to be amused as well."
"Charming. The other slayer from that one report?"
"Coma. We're paying attention to her."
"Good. Go rest. I'm going to make sure that I can keep down food again." His team leader grinned and left him to his complaining. He had to make a report to the MaCUSA president tomorrow. The man was not going to be pleased.
***
The MaCUSA president stared at his head auror. "What the ever-living hell?" he demanded.
The auror put on the battle film. Then got out of the way, kicking the trashcan closer. "That was their graduation. What we were warned about."
The president watched, looking disgusted. "Oh, that's nasty."
"That's ninety years of work for him to get to that point." The president looked at him. "There's five ways. The book shows five ways, there may be more," he corrected himself. "We're starting to track some things that are imported so we can see if there's more. We know a few things go to other rites. So what is your wife ordering, sir?"
"She is?" He leaned back in his chair. The auror showed him the paperwork. "Oh, she is. I think that was to help her aunt do something archaic." He handed them back. "No idea."
"Okay." He put them into his bag again and took out the DVD from the player. "Also." He handed over the report with a smile. "We've stopped the army."
The president looked that over, grimacing. "That's even worse." He put them on his desk. "Down and stopped?"
"Completely. Raided the base, got all the subjects to the healers for their kind of being. Destroyed part of the base."
"Excellent work. Now what?"
"Now, we watch to see what the next problem out there is. We can't really stop the hellmouth from radiating. The next biggest one they'd flee to is Cleveland."
"Heck no," he said. "That's way too close to here."
The auror shrugged. "We don't determine that, sir. It's just where the world ripped."
"Fine." He waved a hand. "How many more do we expect so far?"
"We've tracked down nineteen people who have imported things on the newly restricted list. We're checking them all." He gathered his bag. "I'll let you know if we find more starting down that path, sir." He left, going to tell the others. The president may have lied so they'd keep a watch over his family. Just in case. They didn't want one of those in DC.

Xander showed up at Hogsmeade that weekend when the kids were allowed in. He winked at Harry, putting up a video for him. Harry watched then grimaced. "That's so gross," Harry muttered.
"That's an ascension." He grinned. "But we won!"
Harry nodded. "You guys are nuts."
"Yes we are," he agreed happily. "You can get others to see it if you want. Your guardian knows to share if the Brits ask." He winked at Hermione, making her blush. "We won."
"I saw some of that. That was disgusting."
"Yeah." He nodded. "But we won."
"Good!" She went to call Ron over and then Tonks to come see it. Tonks showed up before Ron. She came out of the floo and strolled over. "Hey, Tonks."
"Hermione." Ron came jogging over. "Ron." He grinned at Xander. "Cousin Xander."
"I don't think I'm related to the Black family," he admitted, considering it. "No, not in many generations." He shrugged and reran the film for them.
Ron shuddered. "That's gross!" The mayor had just broken out of his skin. "Oh, hell no!"
"The aurors will share the official video," he told Tonks with a grin.
"Yeah, I should do that. They're going to be pissed off." She went to call over there to get it in a format they could use at the Ministry. Then she called a meeting. Bones came in alone. The others ignored the order. She showed her the film with a grin. "They won!"
She blinked, watching it. "The hell is that?" she demanded.
"An ascension!" She handed over the notes that had come with it. "Depending on the way they do it, they need at least one of those."
Bones looked then went to make sure they were banned and noted. Only one grew natively. They could make them file paperwork on it. She called a meeting and everyone *knew* to come this time. A few sighed. She looked at them. "We have film from what happened in Sunnydale a few days ago. This is called an Ascension. The human was their town's mayor."
She reran it. They all stared. A few looked bored until the human broke out of his skin. Then a few heaved. The rest stared harder at the battle, nodding a bit. "You notice a few are American aurors. They finally showed up after the Dumass heir made them," she announced. "Because of this, we are now going to ban some items from importation."
They watched the thing die and the school blow up. "The head had to come off," she said blandly, staring at them. They all stared at her once she turned it off. "These are the items they need to do this." She handed over the notes.
"We're banning most of them. One can be grown natively so we'll be coming up with forms for them to file about who they sell it to. That part can only happen during an eclipse. There's years of sacrifices first."
"That one took ninety to be that size," Tonks quipped from her seat. "Smaller ones take fewer years. There may be more ways, that's just what's in the book," she said, looking at the others. "I tried to tell you guys." She shrugged. "You ignored it." A few of the older ones glared at her.
"She's right and I'm the only one that showed up when she called." She looked around then took the notes. "We can ask to see the book that lists the rites."
"No one here does that sort of old magic," one complained.
"Three have been importing just these things. Just because we have a wand doesn't mean they can't learn the old ways. Voldemort sure has," she finished blandly. A few slumped at that, one shaking his head. "So yes, we're going to be paying some attention before we have one of these in Hogsmeade that heads for the school, or here in Diagon!" They nodded. "Good! Tonks, see if we can get a copy of that book?"
"Already asked, sent a nice letter to that one wizard out there."
"Thank you." She looked around. "Also, become familiar with the battle tactics. We may need them soon." A few winced at that. "Because we're the aurors, not the children," she finished firmly. "Understood?"
"Yes, ma'am," most of them agreed.
"Good. Dismissed back to duties. I'm going to disgust the Wizengamet." She sighed, taking things up there. They were arguing over a bill so she added a note to the upcoming things.
"It won't be today," the speaker said. "It may not be this week."
"Make it be today," she ordered. "We need to ban a few things and make a form for another." A few looked at her. "We have film from what happened in Sunnydale. We're going to work to prevent it from happening here," she announced. "Once you're done arguing." She sat down in her spot.
The Longbottom Matriarch looked at her. "What now?"
She waved a hand. "Finish up the current one. I can wait." They finished up the argument and moved onto the other matters. That took another two hours of boring discussion. She stood up and put up the film, letting them see it. A few heaved. Most looked very upset.
"This one took ninety years of sacrifices, including human ones," she announced. "We know there's at least five ways. We can ban the necessary materials most would need, all but one that can be grown here. We can impose paperwork on that one." She put the notes down so they could be shown to everyone.
"Does that say human sacrifice?" another woman demanded, standing up.
"Yes it does. The one that did that had two sacrificial rites apparently, one of babies under a month old." She stared at her. "This end point can only happen during an eclipse. We've asked to look at the book that has the full rites they have to go through. I don't want to see this in Hogsmeade or Diagon. These things need to be banned or at least severely limited for importation." She pointed at that list. "This one we can grow, we can get paperwork on sales. All I need is for you to agree with that."
"Is it used for anything else?" one old man asked.
"Not as far as I can tell, and if so we can demand paperwork and severely limit it."
"We need to make sure nothing's going to be impacted by that," the speaker said, looking at her. "You were right, we really can't wait on that. Get me someone from Importation," he called. A page went to get one and brought them in. "Do we have regulations on any of these?" he demanded, pointing at the list.
He looked then looked it up. "One," he said with a point. "That one we can grow natively. We don't have anything about it however. Why?" She let the film run and he looked sickened.
"Five ways or more to do that, they take something from this list depending on the method they're using," Bones said. "Can we do paperwork on the one we can grow?"
"Yes we can," he agreed, looking at the congressional body. "I can work up that form." He looked away as the school blew up. "That's disgusting."
"We need to find out if anyone's doing that here so we can stop them," Bones said.
"Yes we do," he agreed with a nod. He looked at their oversight. Who all nodded. "Are we banning them completely?"
"Unless we can find some other thing that may need them."
"One may be used in a medical potion. I'll find that out and let you know tomorrow." He copied the list for himself and went to talk to the Potions and Medical board.
She smiled. "Once we hear that report we'll gladly vote to ban them, Madam Bones. None of us want to see one of those in person. Though it was charming that aurors responded."
"With much prodding. That one with the axe, giving orders, is the Dumass heir." They all winced. "Usually they ignore the hellmouth out there."
"Do we have one of those here?" Madam Longbottom asked.
"There's a tiny one up near Devon, which is why there's the Devon coven watching over it. They work with the Watchers Council." They all grimaced at that. "That blonde was their slayer."
"How bad that is," Madam Longbottom sighed. "Can we save them?"
"No. They're appointed before birth to the calling that'll someday activate. We all wish." That got a nod from a few. "Thankfully they could handle it."
The others nodded. The person from Importation came back with his notes. "Only one is used for anything, and it's for a fairly rare medical potion. We can easily put paperwork in for that one to note it was imported and who's using it to brew." He smiled. "The one we grow naturally we have a form that we can add them to. This is that regulation." He presented it to the speaker, who let the others view it. "Would that work?"
"That would," Madam Bones agreed. "Thank you for the quick work." He smiled and nodded. "Do we know about any that have imported those?"
"One person. They're in jail now." He let her have that form. "That was noted last year."
"Did they do any of these rites?" she asked.
"No, not that we're aware of if you're not, Madam Bones."
"I'll look into it. Their name?" It was handed over. "Thank you. I'll look into them tonight." She looked at the body. "Can we do that?"
"Yes, we can," Madam Longbottom agreed. They all voted on that and agreed it would be stopped. No one wanted that in the UK.
By that night someone had asked that idiot if he was doing the same thing and he wasn't. His plans had a different form of power raising. One that would probably work but he had to finish his work to summon that demon. So he was not going to be coming out of the jail via parole. He could serve his full thirty years.
